Dining At Chef N

Getting a quality meal at a restaurant doesn’t have to be a pretentious affair, nor should it break the bank. Serving up elevated homestyle cuisine, Chef N is a gastronomic getaway located in The Village at Pigeon Lake. This is an unpretentious joint, where you’re sure to feel at home. Chef Nathan is in the kitchen himself, making gravy from roasted bones, brining and smoking their own bacon, plus whipping up all the sauces and dressings that accompany your meal.

Settling into a roomy booth, you’re apt to notice the filament lights dangling from the ceiling, casting a warm glow about the restaurant. Locals mingle amid the out of town visitors, and seating can be arranged to accommodate large groups.

Wet your appetite by sampling a creative twist on a well loved classic. Turkey Wings, Asian Fish Tacos and Irish Nachos (lattice cut potato chips sub in for tortilla chips), all begged to be shared, but you’ll be forgiven if you opt to devour them all by yourself. Inventive cocktails such as Killer Kool-Aid, an intoxicating concoction of vodka, amaretto, melon liqueur, cranberry and soda are best sipped with such nibbles, and preferably under an umbrella on the large outdoor patio.

Famous for their juicy burgers, Chef N grinds the meat themselves, so you can order your burger just how you like it, including medium rare. Sandwiches are jam packed with smoked brisket, smokehouse pulled pork and freshly roasted turkey. Speaking of turkey, adventurous eaters will want to try the Hot Turkey: pulled turkey loaded onto a stuffing waffle, smothered with gravy, with tart cranberry sauce on the side.

For dinner entrees, you can’t go wrong with one of the chef’s favourites. Consider Drunken Irish Chicken: grilled chicken thighs smothered in a whisky mushroom cream sauce with a side of roasted veg and colcannon - that’s Irish mashed potatoes and lip smacking they are!

Smokehouse ribs are one of the most popular menu items - marinated and smoked for hours before being braised in-house. Ribs are done in the St. Louis style, and are an excellent option for takeaway. Whatever you decide, expect generous portions and plenty of options for vegetarians and those who can’t tolerate gluten.

Finish strong by treating yourself to a from-scratch dessert. It’s a tough choice between the individual baked apple pie, chocolate ganache (gluten-free) or the traditional sticky toffee pudding lashed with house-made caramel sauce. Best order one of each and have everyone share, so no fights break out.

No need to wait for a table during busy weekend dinner service. Simply head to the lounge that sports the full menu, plus large screen TVs to watch the game. Here, you’ll find late night specials and half price appetizers after 8 p.m. After dunking house-made, maple syrup glazed bacon into a savoury parmesan dip, we’re pretty sure you’ll become converted to Chef N’s uptown country cuisine, if you weren’t already.

Chef N is open for dinner and lunch service. The restaurant offers catering, plus full menu takeaway.
